Hi I Had An Endoscopy Friday Morning. The Upper Part
it is not common, but can occur, should be assessed
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
There are, unfortunately, complications for any surgical procedure . The main complications of endoscopy are: bleeding, infection, reaction to meds used, perforation/rupture, complications involving heart/lungs.
Though pain can occur in some persons, it is usually at the throat (at the point of insertion of the scope), not as commonly in the epigastrium (upper part of the abdomen), though that can occur as well.
Because it is not as common however, it would be best to speak to your doctor , preferably the doctor who did the procedure but if he or she is not available, your GP
Abdominal pain , unless clear cut as in persons with vomiting or diarrhea, usually requires physical examination of the abdomen, so it would be best for you to be seen and examined to make sure that there are no issues post procedure.
Imaging may also be suggested (it would depend on the examination findings).
If there is no significant trauma to the esophagus or stomach (which is usually the case), the you may only require pain medications for a short period of time.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
