Hyperthyroidism
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome to Ask a doctor.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX
As per your history and presenting complaints, your doctor got your thyroid levels checked. It shows hyperthyroidism i.e your thyroid gland is overactive and producing higher levels of T3 and T4 hormones.Due to an already increased levels of them, there is consequential decrease in levels of Thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH).
Thyroid hormone is hormone that has extensive function in various metabolic activities of body organs and a disturbance in it's level almost always affects all vital organs.Hyperthyroidism most commonly cause tremors, fast pulse rate, feeling of palpitations, sweating, difficulty in breathing, rashes, swellingsand feeling of heat.
For such patients,we start anti thyroid tablets which contains carbimazole 5 mg.Initial dose is in the range 20 to 60 mg taken as 2 to 3 devided doses.Dose should be titrated against thyroid function until the patient is euthyroid.Manainence doses are 5 to 15mg per day single dose.Therapy is usuallyfor 6months to 18 months.Serial TSH monitoring is done together with dose modification.A liver disease, pregnancy and breast feeding are relative contraindications.
Supportive and symptomatic drugs like propranolol (beta blocker) and anxiolytics like benzodiazepines are used to control the symptomatology.
There is nothing to be worried about as this is just a deficiency disease that can easily be salvaged. There is no urgency as such and you can discuss the course of your treatment with your clinician whenever she is available.
Hope that I have answered your query. Please let me know if you have any other queries.
Stay healthy.
Regards
