Hi. I Tramped On A Nail Today From An Old
Question: hi. i tramped on a nail today from an old dock. the nail was not exactly rusty, but it wasnt a new nail, either. it hurt, of course, but i was able to walk on it w no problem. this happened at roughly 4pm. it is now almost 8, and it actually is a little painful to try and move my toes on that foot. it has been cleaned out w peroxide, and neosporin ointment has been applied. for the last hour i have had it propped up with ice against the bottom of my foot i have had a tetanus shot 13 months ago or so.
Brief Answer:
Take an oral antibiotic, topical antibiotic, no need of tetanus injection as of now
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have gone through your complaints and understand your concern.
No need of getting a tetanus shot again as you got it 13 months ago.
If the wound is apparent you need to take a course of an oral antibiotic like tablet Cephalexin (500mg twice daily for 5 days). Oral antibiotics are prescription drugs and you need to see the doctor in person to get it.
Meanwhile, continue applying Neosporin ointment and take Ibuprofen tablet after some food for pain relief.
Hope to have answered your query. I would be happy to answer any further queries.
