Hi Ive Had A Cough For Years That Comes And

Question: hi ive had a cough for years that comes and goes im 44 and a smoker , ive never had a chest infection or coighed up blood , im scared this could be lung cancer
its a phlegmy cough and it usually lasts for 4 months after a cold

i had blood tests 2 years ago and was all clear

I can understand your concern

First despite your concern I strongly recommend you to stop smoking as a strong causative factor of lung cancer.

Unfortunately it doesn't exist until now in my knowledge and according to the recent literature any screening test for lung cancer.

It is widely said to stop smoking.

Regarding your concern if you were my patient I would recommend you to do a chest X ray and a Spirometry test to see if you have obstruction of the airways.If it is positive than your doctor will advise you further.Please discuss with him or her for the above .

Probably smoking is the cause.If the tests I mentioned above are negative than with the quiting of smoking the cough probably will disappear
