Hi My Mother In Law Is 87 And Her B12
Question: hi my mother in law is 87 and her b12 report shows 1377 pls tell me anything serious
Brief Answer:
Your mother is probably taking the vitamin tablets, you can stop it.
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Welcome to Ask a Doctor service.
Vitamin B12 is generally safe and at higher doses does not offer any useful effect.
Your mother is likely taking a vitamin supplement that is why the level is so high.
You can ask her to stop it now since it is quite high and she does not need the supplements.
However, you need not worry about such high levels as Vitamin-B12 is considered to be quite safe.
Hope that answers your query.
Best regards

Please elaborate what you mean by Lung infection.
Detailed Answer:
Hello again XXXXXXX
Thank you for writing back to me and I apologize for the delay in answering, I login to work only between 4:30 am to 8:30 am on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, so I can not respond immediately.
I am a bit confused by your query. You say, your Mother-In-Law is suffering from lung infection, can you please explain what made you think that she is suffering from lung infection?
How was the lung infection diagnosed without cough or sputum?
Does she have fever?
My guess is, there something that the doctor is suspecting, but he or she is not sure, so they want to confirm by doing a bronchoscopy (something like a cancer).
If there is no fever, or cough or sputum, then there is no infection.
Ask the doctor who told you bronchoscopy is necessary, why it is necessary, then you can get back to me.
Hope that answers your query.
Wishing her a speedy recovery.
Regards
