However due to the size of the cyst which is 10cm it may cause obstruction in the urinary system. Signs of obstruction are pain in the loin area, recurrent urinary tract infections or development of swelling in the kidneys (hydronephrosis) and stone formation in the affected kidneys.

If you have no symptoms then there is nothing to worry about. There are no medications or food to avoid to decrease the size of the cyst or to prevent other cysts from developing.

Preferred option would be laparoscopic renal cyst removal (unroofing) since this would be the definitive treatment. With 3 small incisions in the abdomen under general anesthesia the urologist would use a camera to remove the cyst.

Another option is needle aspiration under local anesthesia. However since your cyst is large in size this is a sub optimal treatment and recurrence for 10cm cyst treated with needle aspiration is very high (>60%) and you may need to repeat the aspiration every few months.

Complication for both procedures are very low. Many people do not experience any pain despite having large cysts in the kidneys.
