I, I Have A History Of Anxiety And I Wasn’t

Question: i, I have a history of anxiety and I wasn’t sure if the symptoms I’ve been having are consistent with anxiety.
After long car drives it feels like I have been on an elevator and that I am still in motion; I get dizzy and disorientated and off balance.

This feeling occurs even when I haven’t driven. Sometimes it feels as though I get acute attacks where my left hand partially locks up and my legs go stiff; my body becomes all rigid and I have to grab onto something because I feel like I am going to fall. My whole body locks up and my left hand always clenches and legs go stiff and painful.

I don’t know if this is perhaps a reaction to my lamictal or Ritalin or if it is something more sinister. The leg sensation and feeling like I am floating and off balance is very disturbing and I feel like it is something more sinister and I am going to fall over. Can you please help me. I know the set of symptoms sound silly but I am so stressed.

Brief Answer:
Symptoms most likely linked to the medications that you use.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to the “Ask a Doctor “ service.

I have read your question.

I don’t think your symptoms are linked to any serious or “sinister” condition.

Dizziness and ataxia ( or imbalance ) are very common adverse effects of Lamictal use.

Muscles tightness, in the other hand, is a possible adverse effect of Ritalin use.

So, your symptoms are justifiable in connection with the medications that you are using.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Can these medications cause heart problems as I get tachycardia from it sometimes and feel weak and sudden fatigue like I am going to fall asleep on the spot?

Brief Answer:
I would explain as follows.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

Tachycardia is a possible adverse effect of Ritalin use, so, I would say that is possible for this symptom too, to be linked as adverse effects of this drug use.

Hope this helps.

Feel free to ask if you have further questions.
