I Fell On Stairs About 8 Weeks Ago When Two

default
Posted on Tue, 10 Sep 2019
Question: i fell on stairs about 8 weeks ago when two of the treads' nose broke in succession. Landed on my tailbone, lower back, upper back paralled to the stair incline. Chiro exam indicated I broke the tip of my coxcyx. That pain is steady but not severe as long as I take it easy. Two Fridays ago I began experiencing severe stabbing pain in my left hip, accompanied by numbness and feeling of pressure similar to that of a blood pressure cuff, with tingling in that leg and numbness. Maybe coincidental and unrelated. I am constipated now for the last few days, with occasional diarrhea which is light and brief. The constipation is a regular thing. How should I go about getting a diagnosis. I am unisured and have not sought advice so far.

Brief Answer:
Compressed spinal nerve possibly by bulking disc.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

It is a good thing you didn't broke other bones such sacrum or vertebral low spine as it was shown in your xray. The coccyx fracture is usually let to heal by itself.
8 weeks are possibly enough for coccyx fracture to heal.
I don't find constipation much related to the tailbone injury or the fall you had.
It is possibly related to your diet and possibly that you avoid need to go to bathroom because of coccygeal pain.
You can try to improve diet using more fiber and water. You can use sena leaves or even lactulose in order to help empty your bowel easily.
The pain you had before two weeks seems like a compression nerve pain like as a disk in spine may compress the nerves that come out of the spine side down the leg.
The fall and injury you had may have caused it.
You can take antinflamatory drugs such advil or naproxen for pain and rest which can make you feel better.
I can recommend you to take care and keep a position which doesn't cause pain, don't lift heavy weights and give yourself some more weeks you recover.

Hope I have answered the question.
