Brief Answer:
Regarding a mole
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have gone through your query and viewed the image.
Seems like a small, uniformly XXXXXXX colored, well defined symmetrical mole. So, it doesn't look concerning to me. at present. You may keep a watch on it and if it changes in size or shape you could follow up with a dermatologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you need any more assistance.

Thank you Dr. Kakkar. Is it fine that this is a new mole? Is it customary to get new moles? I'm sure I have gotten new moles over the years, but I just haven't been cognizant.
I have read online it is not particularly uncommon, but want to double check. I have my annual skin check the first week of january. Any reason from this information to move it forward?
Thanks!

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
To get new moles is pretty normal on sun exposed sites, particularly in fair skin types. One must always use a sunscreen, particularly between 10AM and 3PM. Most of the new moles that appear are benign in appearance and stay so for ever. Nevertheless, to have a large number of moles (even if benign) is a risk factor for skin cancer even though most of the melanomas don't arise from preexisting moles.
Take care
