Question: i had got the copper t done in 2008 . i am 49 years old now. recently when i went to get it removed i was asked to do a sonography. there are two reports i attach with this . the doctor said that the pulling string is broken off so doctor said she can't pull it out . also i have never experienced any trouble whatsoever with the copper T despite it being way beyond the prescribed deadline. my periods are also regular.
so my question is do i need to remove it when all reports are normal because i have heard of many cases where woman have not got it removed and there have been no issues .i attach the reports for your refference. the

Brief Answer:
Removal advised

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
It is suggestive of broken copper T in the uterine cavity.
It is always advisable to get the copper T removed after its prescribed duration.
Old copper T can lead to erosion of the uterine wall and perforate it to reach the abdominal cavity and damage the intestines.
If the thread is not visible, then the copper T can be removed under hysteroscopic guidance.
So, in my opinion, it should be removed.
You can discuss the condition with your OBGYN specialist and decide accordingly.
