Question: i have a swollen and very tender area on my leg which appeared about a week ago and has been increasing in size. I wonder if I should be concerned and seek medical attention soon.

As per your description,it could be Cellulitis,i.e, Infection of skin and subcutaneous tissue or Abscess i.e, collection of Pus.
Another condition that has to be excluded is Deep Vein Thrombosis.
Colour Doppler of the lower limb will confirm the diagnosis.
