Question: (i have asked this question before but trying to get different opinions from other doctors to stop the worry) i have been trying to avoid a doctor because nothing is affecting my daily activities. only thing that is affecting me is the mental stress of online reading about hernias. I am 26 years old and the other night I was shaving my pubic area when I noticed one side looked a slight bigger. when I say slight I mean it was really small. I walked outside to tell my fiancee and in that time window it was gone. Then when I read up about hernias it says you can push it back in so that terrifies me. when I touched it, it literally felt like nothing.. It felt just like the other side but like a swelling and went away within seconds. The only reason I'm stressing about this because theres been times lately that I feel a quick, really sudden almost jolt near that area. It doesnt Necessarily "hurt" but I'm good with pain so I'm not sure how to describe it. Its like a quick small pain, like I realized theres a muscle there and goes away and doesnt bother me again. Until another completely random burst later on. I've layed down and coughed, stood up and coughed, had my fiancee feel while I'm coughing/straining, and even the slightest flex there with coughing I panic. but I've not seen a bulge since and this is going on day 3 now. Like I said, I'm not even sure what I saw would be considered a bulge. after reading about hernias I'm trying to think back at wha I saw and I feel I'm telling myself that it could've been a hernia and im making myself more tense Because I'm scared to move as if my intestines are gonna fall out like these graphic images I've seen on Google. Had I not looked up anything, my day to day life has been fine. with a random feeling that feels like a muscle spasm and I move on. maybe along with stomach cramps, but I have been on vacation and have eaten more than usual as well. so the stomach cramp along with the random muscle spasm at times has had me worried. Please help

Brief Answer:
Can be hernia or lymph node.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

First of all I can say that you don't have to worry so much about something that you see only once and then never see it for three days even after coughing, laughing and straining . It us better not to refer to much to Google articles.
Also I don't think there is anything else than a hernia or an enlarged lymph node, that it can be according to the position, in the side of pubic area.
If it is an hernia it can go in while laying down and come out while stranding up, straining, coughing, laughing etc.
I don't think this is something to worry about because if it is hernia it is possible at the beginning and very small that not much of intestine can go out.
Since it is not hurting is not an emergency but if pain starts you should seek medical attention soon.
If it is a lymph node the swelling remains always despite the position. Possibly you can't feel it probably but it's still there.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
