Hello and welcome in Ask the Doctor

I can understand your concern

According to the chest CT you are suffering from bilateral bronchiectasa which is a widening of the airways and cause the bronchial secretions to be blocked in that area. The chronic cough is the main symptom of these patients.

In such cases we recommend mucolitics such as N . acetil cysteine orally once for lubrication of the secretions to be expelled easily. If you have fever also you need an antibiotic such as Azitromicini 500 mg for three days. Another thing that helps a lot is chest fisiotherapy until the cough gets better.
Try to have a lot of water and do physical activities .

Hope to have been helpful

Many thanks Doctor for your response. It is very helpful. Just one more thing. Can you be a little specific on the N-acetylcysteine oral? Which specific drug are you referring to, just in case I want to buy at the pharmacy counter? Is this an inhaler? In what doses?
for the Azitromicini 500 mg, what are the doses per day?

Thank you
Damiano
