it started a couple years ago. in just my right hand. it seems like there was an episode where i had swelling in both hands and and feet that lasted a few days. after that i had numbness in both hands and the soles of my feet. forearms and back of my legs. i am very active swim 1 mile 3 times a week, cycle 20 miles 3 times a week. weakness in my hands is most noticeable. i squeeze a ball to strengthen them. i was and am healthy otherwise. i have been doing yoga with the hope it would improve. so far only marginally better. thanks form your help.
Brief Answer:
worthwhile to visit a neurologist...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
It seems like this is a chronic problem affecting peripheral limbs. It could be related to age related skin changes. It may also be related to a few systemic medical conditions like anemia, thyroid disturbance, nutrient deficiency or stress related somatic problem. However since you mentioned you have hand weakness, it would be worthwhile to visit a neurologist and discuss the problem. I will suggest a detailed neurological examination and if deemed necessary a brain scan (MRI scan) will need to be performed along with tests for aforementioned conditions.
In the interim, you should stay relaxed. Manage stressors. If you haven't tested blood sugar in the recent past, get it checked. Continue yoga and simple physical exercises.
Further treatment is based on evaluation results. So do consider visiting the doctor.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.
