I Saw Blood Clot In My Partners Body..does That Lead
Question: i saw blood clot in my partners body..does that lead to HIV
Brief Answer:
Kindly post the complete query
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Having a blood clot does not really expose you to HIV. If fluids were oozing from the clot or there was active bleed that came in contact with your mucosa then it may lead to transmission.
I would suggest that you post details of the situation, so that I am better able to help.
Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi Dr. Vaishale, I unknowingly bit my partners shoulders that lead to blood clot on her shoulders. i believe there is no blood flowing out of that clot or any fluid. I am scared that clot it came in contact with my mouth twice. I have attached the blood clot image. Thanks
Hi dr, i have started taking PEP medications from today aftn..is that advisable?? thanks
Brief Answer:
PEP is not needed
Detailed Answer:
Hi again
Thanks for reverting back with details and I have seen the attached photo. The photo that you have attached is more like a subcutaneous bleed with intact skin. There is nil risk of transmission of HIV from this particular situation. PEP is not needed in your case.

Thanks for replying. Can you please double confirm that no blood comes out of that blood clot, because that blood clot happened due to me ( through bitting). Also i have another question, If i have a cut in my thighs and my partners vagina comes in contact with that cut, do i get affected by HIV. Thanks
Brief Answer:
It is a love bite
Detailed Answer:
Hi
The attached photo suggests a love bite (hickey). Bleeding has seemingly happened under the skin only due to vigorous sucking (not biting). No teeth marks seen in the photo to disrupt the skin continuity.
In the situation of a cut in thigh, it has to bleed actively and partners blood/secretions has to come in contact with the thigh blood to cause any transmission. Anyways virus dies within minutes outside body. So chances of such a transmission (even in active bleed) is also close to zero.
