I Took Metoprolol Last Night For The First Time It

Question: i took metoprolol last night for the first time it made me feel awful can i stop taking it

i took metoprolol last night for the first time it made me feel awful can i stop taking it
Brief Answer:
Depends on why you are taking it
Detailed Answer:
Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using Ask a Doctor. Whether you can safely stop taking metoprolol depends in part on the reason you were started on it, and how you were doing before you started it. Most likely it would be fine temporarily until you can contact your doctor about starting a different medication instead of it, but if you can provide me with more information, I should be able to give you more clear advice.
I will look out for your response, also let me know if you have any other questions and I'd be glad to help any way I can.

Yes I was put on it for anxiety but I really couldn’t understand the doctor when she asked me what my blood pressure is at home because at home I can calm myself down

Yes I was put on it for anxiety but I really couldn’t understand the doctor when she asked me what my blood pressure is at home because at home I can calm myself down
Brief Answer:
It would be safe to stop
Detailed Answer:
It sounds like it would be safe to stop it then, especially if it is making you feel worse. I think your doctor wanted to know what your blood pressure is at home when you are calm, so that it doesn't get too low with the metoprolol. Otherwise, I would make a follow up appointment with your doctor to discuss other treatments instead of the metoprolol, since it sounds like that isn't going to work for you.
I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any questions about any of that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.

Brief Answer:
No need to take the medication
Detailed Answer:
A heart rate of 107 is a little higher than normal, which may be due to anxiety or stress, and as long as it goes back down below 100, it would be fine. If it does stay above 100 and you are not under any stress, I would talk to your doctor about it. However, it is not an emergency and there is no need to take the medicine for this.
