
Im 52 I Had Tested Positive For Hpv The Last

Question: im 52 I had tested positive for hpv the last 4 years. Not 16 and 18 my mother just had a hysterectomy due to uterine cancer. I have had two cystoscopes and I want a hysterectomy because I feel it is like playing Russian roulette my doctor says no. I want a second opinion.

HPV is a causative factor for cervical cancer and not uterine cancer.
There is no role for prophylactic hysterectomy and hysterectomy in only be done if there is any suspicious lesion detected by imaging or scopy,
As there is strong family history, you are definitely at high risk. You can do frequent followup with Pap smear and ultrasound, and if something suspicious arises, we can think about hysterectomy.
