Question: last week, i had a perianal abscess surgery. (roight around my tailbone to be exact). the doctor said it spread deep, so they made a larger/deeper gap than usual abscess (like shoulder abscess) surgery. Now its about 10 days im doing regular dressing after surgery. the doctor says I need another surgery to "close the wound" but he is not mentioning the name of the surgery clearly. He says theres no fistula, he vaguely called it "secondary stitching" before, and now he is calling it "cosmetic surgery" vaguely. Now i want to know wether the doctor is trying to keep us uninformed so that we stay calm?like do i have a fistula? does a perianal abscess surgery require another surgery after 11/12 days of wound healing? i just want to be informed thats it.

Brief Answer:
It is called secondary closure!

Detailed Answer:
HI,

This seems appropriate. Because the incision site was infected at that time, closure would have not allowed for appropriate healing and would have certainly failed. After 11/12days, if the incision site was quite deep and would make natural healing long and difficult, it is appropriate to attempt a secondary closure. This is similar to what is done when someone has an infected wound at the time of surgery such that closure is deferred until there is no more active infection.

In all, this seems appropriate if the incision is very deep and healing would be difficult.

I hope these guides and helps. I wish you well.
