Brief Answer:
For your child age 3 months one to two ounces of diluted prune juice is a reasonable starting dose.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question Zellene. I have read your child complain and hope I can be of help for you today. Through reading your query I understand what you question. I am sorry that your child is having trouble with constipation. I would like ask you some question about your child feeding. Is he breast feeding only or formula milk? And how long does he have constipation? For some child, the change from breast milk or formula to cow milk also appear to trigger constipation. If the development of constipation is temporally associated with changing to cow’s milk, it is reasonable to do a trial of limiting cow’s milk to 24 ounces daily(475 to 700 ml) and/or trial of a calcium fortified soy milk. You can add active carbohydrates to the formula. One such option is the addition of sorbitol containing juice eg, apple, prune, or pear). For your child age 3 months one to two ounces of diluted prune juice is a reasonable starting dose.

Hope I have answered your query. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your child good health. Let me know if I can assist you further.
