My 6 Year Old Son Had A Tonsillectomy And Adenoidectomy

Question: my 6 year old son had a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy 7 days ago. He is running a temp around 99.5. Is this normal several days after the surgery. His baseline is around 97 so he felt warm which is how i noticed. He is taking in adequate fluids. Can pain elevate body temp after surgery?
Brief Answer:
Antibiotics can be started empirically.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
High grade fever indicates infection somewhere in the body and it has to be dealt meticulously in the postoperative period.
You can give him paracetamol tablet according to the body weight to control fever. Drink plenty of water to keep him hydrated.
A short course of antibiotics can also be started empirically, Preferably amoxicillin ot amoxclav can be tried.
If symptoms persist it will be better to consult an ENT specialist and get evaluated. In that case a detailed evaluation is needed.
Wishing all the best
