Question: my 93 year old mother has a couple of severe pressure wounds that are being treated with Medihoney. The home care specialist insists that the Hospice nurse who treats my mother should be using Silver Sulfadiazine cream because she claims the Medihoney is enlarging the wounds. Who is correct?

Brief Answer:
The necrotic tissue has to be removed.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I saw the pics.
The dark coloured tissue that is present in the centre of the pressure sores is Necrotic. It is dead tissue.Unless it is removed, the wound doesn't heal.
Medihoney is useful for dressing. It doesn't increase the wound size. But,it will work effectively only after removal of dead tissue. The necrotic tissue can be removed easily on the same bed itself.
Her position has to be changed frequently.Water bed will be helpful.
Nothing to worry.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions,I will clarify further.
Wish her good health.
Regards
