Welcome To Ask A Doctor Service
I have gone through your question, I understand your concern.
He developed severe acute gastroenteritis.
As he is not able to take food orally, he must be admitted and should be given intravenous fluids to meet the daily requirement of fluid.
should be given IV antiemetic like ondansetron as oral antiemetic would not be tolerated well.
so basically he needs hospitalization, because home based treatment would not be well tolerated.
Other than that, some investigations must be done like
1. complete blood count.
2. Ultrasound whole abdomen.
3. Routine / microscopy urine.
I hope your query is clear now.
Thanks and regards

thank you doctor ,
actually he can take food orally, he's not hungry, but can. he just had some probiotic yoghurt. anything else he should eat?
he is drinking plenty fluid, ginger water too.
You said he should be given IV antiemetic - but he is not nauseous or vomiting anymore at all.
it's just the very painful bloating that is not subsiding or being released.
Do you have any more advice on this?
We will go to the doctor in the morning if it's not better. thank you

I have gone through your question, I understand your concern.
If he is taking orally and not nauseous, then give 3 litres of ORS daily.
Give him anti spasmodic like cyclopam tablet and tablet ranitidine 150 mg, whenever required.
Other than that continue yogurt.
And yes if no improvement, then visit doctor as you have already planned.
I hope your query is clear now.
Thanks and regards
