Question: my husband has yearly physicals. His PSA was normal last year. This year it was 4.3 and was rechecked in 6 weeks and went up to 5,4. The urologist did a prostate exam and said she did not think it was Prostate cancer. What is your expert opinion//

Brief Answer:
Take following treatment and repeat PSA test after two weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .

Based on the facts that you have posted the PSA tests of your husband done over a span of 6 weeks is showing rising trend .

The raised PSA at this age could be due to Benign Enlargement of Prostate associated with infection .Give him antibiotics like Cefexime and Nitrifurantoin twice daily for two weeks and repeat the PSA tests after two weeks .

If it still remains to be higher than 4 he will need to go for Ultrasound Guided Multi Score Biopsy of Prostate which is the only confirmative test to rule out Cancer of the Prostate

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
