Question: my son gets blood in his tool intermittingly; we have blood work, urine analysis, stool tests. Found out recently he is lactose intolerant. He doesn't have diarheaa, hasn't lost weight, isn't tired, completely healthy. Cal protectin was found in his stool 700 ( he was still drinking milk because we didn't know he was lactose intolerant at the time.

Hi Hantonelli,

From what you describe, your son could have inflammatory bowel disease. Has he had a colonoscopy?

Brief Answer:
It may be many things

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,

Intermittent bloody stools and fecal calprotectin of 700 suggest inflammation; it can be infectious (salmonella, yersinia, camphylobacter, clostridium, etc.) but if it is remitting and has been going on for months or years, it can very easily be inflammatory bowel disease, e.g. ulcerative colitis.

Hope this helps.
