My Son Has A Terrible Rash On Different Parts Of

Question: my son has a terrible rash on different parts of his body like his neck, both arms, under both armpits, thighs and back of his leg like where your knee caps would be. I'm attaching some pictures for review. He is adult and sexually active so I don't know what this could be but I would like to rule out everything because he lives with me and I don't know if this is contagious. He says he has not been bitten by anything and we have not changed laundry detergent or introduce anything new into our life lately at all. He has never had eczema or any other skin disorder. Please see the pictures and let me know what you think it could be.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have gone through your query and viewed the images.
It seems like a viral exanthem or it could be a drug rash.
Is the rash itchy?
Does he have any other symptoms like fever?now or recently?
Any history of intake of any medication?
Hope to assist you further with your query. Take care.

Dr. Thanks for getting back to me. He said it only itches first thing in the morning pretty much. He states no fever ever. His temperature is taken daily and there has been none that he's aware of. He is taking no medicine for anything not now or in the past. Could this be venereal related at all? I just don't know what this could be. A friend of his told him to start applying Triamcinolone Acetonide Ointment 0.1% he's in medical school but I told him no not until he knows better what this could be? Do you think he needs a blood test and if so, for what? Also, should he use that medicine his friend told him about? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Possibility of this being pityriasis rosea (inverse type)
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thank you.
No, it doesn't seem like an STD.
Seems like Pityriasis rosea (inverse type) which can present as a rash with bumps and patches on flexors like underarms, neck, groins in response to certain viral infection, certain food and food preservatives, drugs/ medications etc.
I think it would be ok to apply triamcinolone acetonide cream.
Take care

Good Morning,
Based on your personal experience, what would be the best product to use on the rash and how long will it take to go away? What exactly should we do to get rid of this problem? Will it ever go away for good or do we have to worry about it coming back? Is there anyway to verify that this is exactly what you think it is?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
regarding rash
Detailed Answer:
Hi. Good morning
Topical steroids work very well in a case of pityriasis rosea. Use it twice daily for 2-3 weeks. Can be extended if required. Treatment is curative although there can be a fresh flare but it needs to be managed similarly. Diagnosis is clinical in most cases.
Take care. Let me know if you need any more assistance
