Question: pls let me know what all to avoid when one gets Hepatithis A. I am currently exploring some one for marriage and have met him 3 to 4 times. but he recently recovered from Hepatithis A and doctor has told him to avoid few things till November. Also I read an article online which mentions that having closeness or sexual contact until u fully recover from Hepatithis A is not good as it affects the other person too.. Pls guide me.. Brief Answer:
Hepatitis A transmit by feco-oral route

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Hepatitis A transmits by feco-oral route. Washing hands frequently is required. Yes kissing may spread the infection. You can take a vaccine against hepatitis A, 1 ml in 2 shots, 6 months apart.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:
Stool shedding of virus is usually upto 40 days

Detailed Answer:
Hi again
I can understand your concern.

Physical contact be avoided upto 40 days from peak of ALT enzyme (peak of symptoms). In some cases the shedding of virus can be upto 3 months time. As long as the virus is being shed, precautions need to be taken.
Yes prepare the food at home and in clean drinking water from RO system. RO ensures that viruses are filtered out.
There is nothing to be worried. It all depends on your own immunity as well. You should get Hepatitis A vaccine. If you havn't gotten Hepatitis B vaccine, then this is your chance to get both vaccines in same syringe (Twinrix). It will protect you.

Brief Answer:
Sure you are welcome

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for consulting me online.

People do get infections all the time, and most of them donot get transmitted in marriage. Unfortunately, Hepatitis A may transmit and some precautions are needed until the person recovers. Anyways he maybe weak during the infection and may himself delay the marriage.

You can always ask more questions in case of any doubts.

If you have no more questions for today, you can close the query and rate the answer.

Best wishes.
