Should I Be Concerned With The First Scan Showed A Mass Like Enlargement Of The Cecum?

Question: I had two CT scans in the ER four hours apart. The first was IV only contrast and showed a mass like enlargement of the cecum. The rad recommended oral contrast. The second scan with oral, the rad said the cecum was normal with no enlargement and no thickening. Why did the oral show normal and should I be concerned with the first scan? I have a colonoscopy on the 12th.

Brief Answer:
Hello dear. The report is normal and nothing to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. I have reviewed the report. So the initial scan was done with intravenous contrast which looks at the wall of the colon and cecum and the surrounding structures. The mass like suspicious enlargement of cecum can be due to a distended cecum due to gas or faecal matter. However, intravenous contrast cannot comment upon the content of the lumen, hence the report says enlargement.
In the second scan, oral contrast visualises the content as it is retained in the lumen after drinking the contrast, and hence can better delineate that the enlargement is due to fecal matter and not a tumor.
Therefore a combined oral and intravenous contrast images gives a clear picture.
Hope you understand better now.
