Sometimes when I get my heart rate up real high I get the skipped heartbeats .. is that normal? Also my ascending aorta is slightly enlarged at 3.8 I am a tall woman.. is that dangerous? Hello!

Welcome to Ask a Doctor service!

I understand your concern and would explain that your aorta dimensions indicate a mild dilatation, but with a good control of your blood pressure values, there is no reason to worry about!

Regarding the escaped heart beats during physical activity, they are quite normal in every healthy person.

From the other hand, it is quite normal to feel your heart rhythm when lying down and this is more common in toll and thin persons ( it is related to the body constitution) and does not indicate anything abnormal.

To conclude , I don't think that you should limit your daily physical activity and it is ok to continue your workout as usual.

Hope you will find this information helpful!

I remain at your disposal for any further questions whenever you need!

Kind regards,

Is there an exercise that works best on lowering my heart rate? Also why when I get in the hot shower my heart rate goes up.. is it the steam that dilates the blood vessels?? Thanks so much!!

My opinion as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

Regular physical activity and aerobics are very good options for exercise.
Anyway, all types of physical activity ( including walking, running, recreational sports) except for weight lifting, can help lower your heart rate.

The palpitations in the hot shower are related to vessel dilation and the increase in the heart rate.

So, there is no reason to panic!

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask me again!

Wishing all the best,
Dr.Iliri
