Brief Answer:
How much insulin is she on currently? Better to take her to the ER.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask a Doctor service.

A high reading on glucometer means the sugar level is so high that the glucometer is not able to display the number.

There are a few serious problems associated with such high sugar levels.

1. Hyperosmolar coma, due to very high glucose levels in the blood, the water from the brain get shifted and can cause coma.

2. Diabetic ketoacidosis. High glucose cannot be utilised efficiently by the body so the excess glucose is converted into acetoacetic acid, and this leads to acidosis of blood and that can have serious effects of breathing and brain function.

Both these conditions are medical emergencies and require prompt correction of blood glucose levels by insulin infusion.

Please take her to the ER (emergency room) and admit her for proper management of blood sugars.

I hope this answers your query.

I hope she recovers soon.

Best wishes.
