Question: Hi what is the side effects of consuming overdose of unicontineE-400 for elderly person? Instead of 1/2 tab in the night she consumed 1.5 tab. She started experiencing weakness and loose motions. She is unable to walk properly and is kind of disoriented as well. What should be done now?

Good evening!

I appreciate your concern for your beloved relative.

Used in the treatment of asthma or chronic bronchitis, Unicontine E-400 if taken in larger doses it causes vomiting, diarrhea, agitation, anxiety, tremors, faster hear beats or convulsions.

Since this drug has a very narrow margin of safety, a slight increase in dosage it may cause the toxic symptoms as outlined above.

So, I am of the opinion that she must be monitored carefully for heart beats (ECG monitoring), convulsions if any, and maintenance of hydration by giving IV fluids. So take her to the nearest hospital for possible admission.
