Brief Answer:
Benign positional vertigo

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

After reviewing your symptoms, I believe you may be experiencing benign positional vertigo. This condition is usually triggered by turning your head or rolling over in bed. The episodes of vertigo typically last from a few seconds to a few minutes.

Benign positional vertigo occurs when small crystals in the inner ear, called otoliths, become dislodged from their usual position.

There's no need to worry, as this condition is usually self-limiting. Adequate bed rest and staying well hydrated can help alleviate your symptoms. Additionally, you might benefit from medication, such as betahistine, to reduce feelings of lightheadedness. Avoid coffee, smoking and alcohol, if any.

If your symptoms do not improve, please consult your healthcare provider for further evaluation and management.

I hope this answers your query. Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.

Thanks for the follow up. Is experiencing residual lightheadness typical after such episodes? I have been feeling a bit off for the past few days, although no room spinning sensation?

Brief Answer:
Realignment of the crystals post dislodgment…

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your response.

The lightheadedness following the vertigo is due to the realignment of the crystals back into their original position. This sensation can also result from the disturbance of fluid inside the semicircular canal of the inner ear caused by the entry of the crystals.

As I mentioned earlier, the medication betahistine can help reduce the symptoms of lightheadedness. Additionally, vestibular rehabilitation exercises may assist in alleviating the after-effects of benign positional vertigo.

I hope this clarifies your concerns. Wishing you good health.

Warm regards,
