Brief Answer:
To stop the pain you need to treat the underlying cause.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question. Hope I can be of help for you today. Sharp pain in the thumb can be caused from joints, tendons, nerves, muscles, blood vessels, skin and fingernail. Do you have any other signs? To stop the pain you need to treat the underlying cause. If you have just pain, you can try acetaminophen or NSAIDs ( nonsteroid antiinflammatory drug) if not better, you should see a doctor and physiotherapy.

I hope that It can help you, and please let me know if you have any clarification or question about that, and I would be welcome to discuss it with you further. I hope you have good health.

Best regards,
