What Is Multiple Myeloma And Hypoalbuminemia If Anion Gap Reading Is Low Is That From My Bone Marrow Because I Have CLL?
Question: If anion gap reading is low is that from my phone marrow because I have CLL
Brief Answer:
Multiple myeloma and hypoalbuminemia
Detailed Answer:
Hi
The anion gap value is the difference between the negatively and positively charged electrolytes.
Low anion gap is caused by presence of abnormal positively charged proteins as in multiple myeloma and hypoalbuminemia
It has no relation to bone marrow and CLL

I had to look up the definitions and was surprised. I will have to ask my oncologist about it when I see him since it was included on his blood test. Thank you. The range was something like 7 to 11 (that is a guess) and my reading was 6. Can that mean it is not very significant? The reason I thought it might have to do with my bone marrow is that the definition I found said usually seen in bone cancer which I knew I didn't have. However when my CLL became active I only had white cells in my bone marrow.
Also when I asked the cardiologist here what would cause a rapid pulse, one of his suggestions was to have my electrolytes checked. Is this the same or something else?

Brief Answer:
Anion gap is (Na+ + K+) - (Cl- + HCO3-)
Detailed Answer:
Hi
The normal value for the serum anion gap is 8-16 mEq/L
Yours is 6
It is not that much significant.
In multiple myeloma a malignancy of the bone marrow characterised by anemia and bone pain causes reduced anion gap
The anion gap is the difference between the measured cations (positively charged ions) and the measured anions (negatively charged ions) in serum, plasma or urine.
Its formula is (Na+ + K+) - (Cl- + HCO3-) where Na- is sodium, K+ is potassium Cl- is chloride and HCO3- is bicarbonate.
CLL has no relation to anion gap.
Imbalane of sodium and potassium in blood could cause a rapid pulse but i would advise you to do a ECG and 2 D echocardiography test to rule any cardiological problem
