Librium (Chlordiazepoxide) is given for alcohol detox. It is given because it is relatively safe. There is the question of whether someone is suicidal.

This is a reason to contact one's doctor, health care, emergency room, suicide hotline, or even religious leader IMMEDIATELY.

Then there is the topic of alcoholism. The libruim is safe. with a small or average amount of alchol, it is not entirely safe, but it isn't very dangerous either. It is guaranteed that the alcohol will have much more of an effect than usual. It will cause increased sedation, delirium, difficulty driving safely, intoxication and more of a hangover.

The Librium will not work for detoxing off of alcohol if it is taken together. Indeed, the risk is greater for ONE dose of 100 mg librium with alcohol WHEN THEY WEAR OFF! The librium is given to the wearing off of alcohol and detox will NOT produce a potentially fatal withdrawal. If the librium is taken with alcohol when they wear off there is NOT libirum to take! the withdrawal will occur and this is often fatal with delirium, DT's, hallucinations, seizures, and death.

Medications are not there permanently in the body. They leave. Their effects wear off. They are no longer doing anything.

Mostly, this either means that the effect is gone and the condition it was treating won't' be treated any more or the drug is gone and the condition is gone so.... fine, great.

BUT sometimes when the drug is gone, there is a FURTHER EFFECT FROM THE DRUG BEING GONE. Mostly it is because the body adapts to it being present. So, if a stress hormone is blocked, then the stress hormones themselves rise to a higher level. when no longer blocked, the stress hormones have a large effect.

If narcotics are stopped there is withdrawal
