Brief Answer:
Avoid alcohol consumption.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

Waking up from sleep with heart palpitations are common if you have been drinking too much. Also you may have other symptoms such headache, dizziness, nausea, muscle pain.
Also suffering from stress and anxiety may make this effect more common. Also if you are taking thyroid medications can contribute to it .

The best thing to treat it is not to have much alcohol, stay hydrated.
Having alcohol can trigger atrial fibrillation so if you find it lasting too much and having chest discomfort you should visit a cardiologist.
It is worry to stop the alcohol totally to avoid the rapid heart rate.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

thanks. its about noon and the palps have stopped but my heartrate is still about 78 and notmally in the low 60s. is that also normal. for your info, I also substantially overate last night as well. Embarrassing lack of discipline with binge behaviors.

Brief Answer:
This values are quite normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
78 bpm is quite normal and is not considered fast heart rate.
You don't have to worry if the heart rate is 78 if usually you have it 60. This variation is quite normal and is not dangerous.
