Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
I believe you are asking about new study
published Wednesday in the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromeope.
The study speaks about a new strand but it is in the family of the previously existing HIV families.
The study says that there is no need to panic.
The tests used before are accurate even for this strand and the treatments are effective also.
So you and your partner are HIV free according to the tests done and they are accurate.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

is it because the new strand is already in an existing group ?
Brief Answer:
It is part of HIV 1.
Detailed Answer:
The new stain has been classified as subtype L in HIV 1 group M.
When we do the tests, we test for main groups HIV 1 and HIV 2 so the new strain is included in the HIV 1 test.
Hope I have cleared your concern.
