Hi there,
Thank you for choosing HCM for your query.
As you mentioned your child has been
wheezing and has had a cough for 2 weeks and is not responding to
nebulizer treatments even though they have been using the medications you mentioned.
There could be a few possiblities here:
1. Your child may be suffering from a viral infection called RSV that takes its due course of time and sometimes it maybe several weeks before you start seeing any difference and till then you can just give him supportive management like breathing treatments for his
asthma which can be exacerbated by this viral infection.
2. There maybe other underlying superimposed infections due to his preexisting condition of asthma, he might need a repeat Xray and some blood tests like
complete blood count, CRP and a
blood culture if he has a
fever.
3. This age group kids have a tendency to put everything in their mouths, so there is a possibility that he might have accidentally aspirated some foreign body that maybe causing his wheezing.
4. And if this is just Asthma that is exacerbated, then he might need pulse dose of oral
steroids for 5 days to help him through his recovery if he is not already getting them.
Hope this helps with various things you can consider why your child is not responding to treatments. Discuss with your doctor about these, they probably have already worked through and ruled out some of these.
Hope your son gets well soon.
Regards,
Dr. Sumeet.
