10 Month Baby, Stopped Nursing, Constipation, Blood In Stool. Can I Give Milk Of Magnesia?

I have a 10 month old son and have stopped nursing him because I am pregnant and my Dr. recommended that he needs to start drinking whole milk. Also because I wasn't taking in enough calories for myself, my 10 month old and new baby. My 10 month old is now very constipated, straining to have bowel movement, hasn't gone poop for 3 days and he just passed a bit of poop but it had red blood at the end where it left his anus. Should he be seen tonight or can I wait. Can he take milk of magnesia?

Hi dear,

Welcome to the HCM,

10 month old baby with constipation requires the enthusiastic weaning. Semisolids to be added gradually like (Dal (pulses), rice, dal mix with vegetables curd, banana shake, porridge, honey etc).

Addition of semisolids itself reduces the constipation.

Add extra sugar to milk.

Fruits not juices are quite helpful.

Milk of magnesia can be given. Lactulose may be the better choice.

Hope the query is answered.

Thanks
