100 Yr Old Has A Cut On Leg With Redness. Swelling Below The Cut. No Tenderness, Pain. Matter Of Concern?
My mother (100 years old) has a cut on the shin of her left leg, it was healing she continue to scratch it open. cut now has some redness and heat with swelling below the cut, cut approx 2 inches long. Can she wait until Monday to see a doctor or should I take her to the emergency room? She is not complaining of pain or tenderness and is walking on the leg.
Hi, From history it seems that there might be having some infection due to cut. As she is 100 years, one should not wait till Monday as there might be having risk of spreading infection. She may require one course of antibiotic to control infection. Meanwhile clean the cut with antiseptic lotion and apply antibiotic cream. Ok and take care.
Hi cut on the shin can be abrasion or laceration.it can be cured by broad spectrum antibiotic twice daily.anti inflammatory agent twice daily and application of fucidin ointment over the lesion can cure it.use of zinc and vitamin c supplementation can fastly cure it
