1.8 Year Hyperactive Kid, Not Drinking Enough Milk. Giving Cypon Syrup. Any Side Effects For This Syrup?
My wife had been feeding cypon syrup for him since he was 1. Because he's hyper active, lack of sleep and didn't take in enough milk. She decided to look for other alternatives and the pharmacist in Cambodia handed her cypon Syrup. He's 1 and 8 months now and she's still feeding him this syrup to help him eat, drink more milk and sleep better. Is this syrup going to affect my son in anyways?
I suggest you get the child properly evaluated by a physician. Changes in weight like weight loss, vomiting and accompanying fevers should be properly measured. A complete blood count and markers of inflammation are important to exclude an infectious process.
Syrups without identifying the cause of symptoms especially in children is not the most appropriate of approaches. A complete evaluation by a pediatrician is important.
Cypon is cyproheptadine. It is an anti-histamine which is generally given for allergies. Increase in appetite and sedation (increased sleep) are side-effects of this drug. If the child is sleeping better, it actually means that the sleep is unnatural, and this may be affecting his brain development ... as the brain develops ALSO when the child is sleeping and not just when he is awake.
