2 And A Half Month Old Is Severely Congested, Wheezy Coughs. Given Otrivin Nasal Drops, No Help. Solution ?
My 2 and a half month old baby is severely congested, watery eyes, horrible coughs for the last 4 days. Today her cough is getting worse and shes wheezing . I have a cool mist humidifier running and have put her to sleep on an incline and still no relief. i had her to her GP yesterday who gave her otrivin nasal drops but not really any help otherwise. i am breastfeeding and shes eating as well as she can but unlatches often to cough and/or catch her breath. What could this be and what else could i do to help??
My advice to youwill be that you should immediately get her examined by a Paeditrician.
It seems that she needs nebulization with a bronchodilator.
In addition to nasal congestion, she seems to be having bronchoconstriction which is causing cough and wheezing. Giving bronchodilators will help in relief from cough and wheezing. Give medications under medical supervision only after getting her medically examined. If any infection is detected, she will need proper antibiotic.
The reason for not able to continue breast feeding for long periods is that her nasal passage may be blocked by dried nasal secretions. Normal saline nasal drops will help to give her some relief.
Make her surrounding warm and ensure that she is properly clothed.
