3 Year Old, Hit Hard On Head, Soft Intended Area, Painful To Touch. Recommendations?
I have a 3 year old who was hit hard on the top of her head by a foul ball at a baseball game earlier today. She did not lose consciousness, cried and has acted normally all day. Tonight I noticed she does not have a lump on her head but has a soft almost indented area. It is still very painful to the touch. Should I be concerned?
Your child has developed a Haematoma post the hit. Haematoma is a collection of blood under the skin and will resolve in 2 weeks time.
Post a head injury one should watch out for few signs in the next 24hrs:
*Projectile multiple vomits
*Abnormal behaviour
*Convulsion *Bleed from ears and nose
If none of the above happen you could relax and for the pian you could give her a painkiller.
Bye

Hi
Thanks for your query.
There is hematoma formation at injury sit due to rupture of small blood vessels and it takes few days to settle.
Apply cold compresses over injured area 2 to 3 times a day.
Give acetaminophen for pain relief.
Watch for warning signals for at least 24 hours that is -lethargy/vomiting/bleeding from ear or nose and in case you find any take her to ER.
