45 Years. Dull Ache In Left Shoulder And Arm. Anything Serious?
hi I am a 45 year old woman and for over a week I have had what can only be described as a dull ache in my left hand shoulder and my arm, I am a worrying person so I am thinking the worst, could you give me some indication what could be wrong with me, I am going on holiday next Monday and I have the worry that something is going to happen to me while im abroad.
There are numerous causes and conditions that will produce pain in the shoulder and the arm.
The source of pain could be the cervical spine, shoulder as such, a cardiac cause or from the Humerus (bone of the arm).
If your pain is increasing with movements of the arm, then it could be propably originating from the muscles. If the pain is constant , continuous and not related to any movements, then it might be originating from the bone (humerus).
So, a detailed clinical examination and appropriate investigations are needed to arrive at a diagnosis.
Consult an orthopedic surgeon for further workup and management.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hi, The pains that you have described are likely to be due to a muscular pain most likely caused by a wrong body posture. I suggest you to- Do regular stretching exercises to relieve the spasm. Lie on hard bed( do not use very soft mattress) Do hot fomatation at the site. Apply local anti-inflammatory gel 2-3 times a day. Take anti-inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen(Motrin) one tablet as and when required to reduce pain . Wish you good health. Take care. Regards.
