5 Week Baby, No Bowel Movement, Painful. Taken Prune And Apple Juice, Tummy Rubs, Exercises. Recommendations?
My 5 1/2 week old has not had a bowel movement in 2 days and I can hear her grunt and groan as if she's trying to release it but nothing comes out ... I've tried everything - warm baths, tummy rubs, leg exercises, prune and apple juice. I have an appointment in 2 days with her pediatrician but is there anything I can do for now to at least soothe her? She cries non-stop, doesn't stop squirming, and I can tell its painful .. Please help
Infants who are on exclusive breast feeds usually pass stool once in a 2 to 4 days around this age and it is not considered constipation.
But there may be slight discomfort due to flatulence or gas formation. For this you can give drops orally like neopeptine drops after prescription from your doctor.
If she cries, this may be due to colic and hold baby tummy against your shoulder to decrease the pain.
Consult the Pediatrician for further advise and for medication advise.
Hi
Thanks for your query.
I suggest you to give EXCLUSIVE BREAST FEEDING till 6 months of age.No need to given even water.
Regarding colic it is a common entity and settles by 3 months of age.
You can give neopeptin drops after consulting your pediatrician.
For constipation if she is comfortable no need not to do anything .
