5 Year Old Having Lump On Right Side Of Neck, Swelling And Pain. What Kind Of Treatment Will Help?
My about to turn 5 year old daughter awoke this morning in a lot of pain with a small lump in the right side of her neck, just below and behind her ear, and the area is also swollen. She isn't comfortable enough to walk and has been laying down in pain all day. I can't get her to a doctor right away because I live in a small rural area where I have to wait to get an appointment. What could this be and what can Ido to alleviate her pain. Any help would be appreciated. Worried sick and hate seeing her in pain!
Hi!
Welcome to HCM!
Your daughter seems to be suffering from acute infection in head and neck region, she needs to be examined by a pediatrician, however you can give her antiinflammatory analgesic like Acetaminophen (Tylenol) Children's Suspension
1 tsp (5 mL) = 160 mg,for 5 year kid one and half tsf is appropriate.Give every 4-6 hours, as needed, and not more than five times in 24 hours.get her examined as early as you get the appointment.
hope this helps!take care!
A swelling on the right side of neck just below and behind the ear is most likely a parotid gland swelling and the other possibility is a lymph node swelling. It is more likely to be due to infection but only a clinical examination can confirm if it is bacterial or viral. You can give her anti inflammatory medications at child doses to control the pain and swelling.
