6 Yr Old Complaining Of Stomach Ache, Green Loose Bowels. What Medicine To Give ?
I have a six year old who has been complaining about a tummy ache on and off since Friday night. He had gone to the bathroom twice today and had green, loose (not liquid) bowel movement . We ve been giving him warm water and warm compress for his tummy and it seemed to offer relief. Should I take him to see his pediatrician tomorrow? Can I give him any medicine? He has no temperature and his symptoms is on and off.
It seems the boy has got Intestinal infection probably GIARDIASIS (caused by Giardia Lamblia, a parasite) transmitted to the human beings by consuming the water or food, contaminated with the trophozoites & cysts of the abovesaid parasite.
Give him as much as of Oral rehydration salt solution to avoid dehydration if any.
Furazolidone or Metronidazole for 7-10 days for the parasitic infection, along with antispasmodics for the cramps.
To avoid future episodes I suggest
1. Drink Always, boiled water which is filtered through a filter with a pore size of 2. Do not eat uncooked or unpeeled fruits or vegetables grown in conditions in which contamination with Giardia might occur.
3. Wash hands before eating food, using the bathroom, or touching pets.
take care,
regards,
