7 Year Old Having Swollen Lymph Node In Neck For Weeks. Took Antibiotics, Allergy Medication. What Could This Be?
My daughter is 7 and very healthy. She has had a swollen lymph node on her neck for more than 5 weeks with no other symptoms. First her doctor put her on an antibiotic and allergy meds to see if that would help, no luck. Then the doctor ordered blood work and it all came back good. Now he is sending us to an ENT. What is the next step and what might this be?
Your 7 year old daughter has an enlarged lymph node whoch has not decreased with antibiotic. I think in this case the next step should be to get a FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) of the node to establish a diagnosis. If you live in India then tuberculosis can always be a possibility in such cases. Does someone in your house/family/locality/her school have TB? It could also simply be a reactive lymph node secondary to some other infection and she may require a different antibiotic.
At present there is nothing to worry as she has no other symptoms. But get a FNAC done, that will give you a definitive diagnosis.
