9 Month Old Child, Excessive Cough, Phlegm, Cold. Treatment Options?
hi, my 9month old son is chesty and has been coughing alot.. tonight he has cought up flam 2 times.. and i think it is giving him pain when he coughs as after he coughs he starts to cry.. he did have a cold a few days back be he dont seem to be having the cold apart from this cough which is worrying me.. is there anythink i can do. until tomorrow when my local doctors is open to seek him treatment..
How is his intake?
If his intake is less / if his breathing is fast/ has difficulty in breathing/ becomes lethargic please take him to ER immediately.
If he has cough alone with no other symptoms mentioned above, you may try giving him Plain Ambroxol syrup (mucolyte) 1.25 ml three times a day till you see your doctor.
But since he is a small kid, its better that you have him examined by a Pediatrician at the earliest as other medications can be decided only after examination of the kid.
Hope you find my answer helpful.
Hello
Intense cough in a 9 month old child can be due to upper or lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI).
Is there any increased repiratory distress distress along with cough as this will suggest LRTI
(Pneumonia).
You can give him some antitussive till you consult your doctor. Consult your doctor for clinical evaluation as this cough may be a sign of pneumonia or spasm of airways and management will depend on that.
