Hello Dr. My grandson age 9 has a red leaky rash on his neck and face and has swelling of neck area and has spread to eye area in a matter of hours. Does not have a temp rash is not itchy and he feels okay. Any suggestions as to what it could be? Emergency Dr.s were not sure what it is. Thought it may be impetigo. But does this cause swelling?

Hi,

Thank you for your query.

Impetigo will not spread in this manner in hours. Rash and swelling usually follows an insect bite and can spread fast. You can give your grandson an anti-histamine dose like phenargan and observe for the next 24 hours. In case the problem increases you should consult the paediatrician.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your son/daughter an early recovery.
