Am I At Risk Of Hypothyroidism If My TSH Was 8.35?

I had the left side of my thyroid removed on 3/26/2012. I recently had my thyroid levels checked. My Free T4 was .9. My TSH was 8.35. I was put on 50 mcg. of medicine. Should my T3 have been checked also? Is there anything else I need to be doing for my Hypothyroidism?

Hi,
You are having subclinical hypothyroidism (As your TSH is above normal and Free T4 is normal). It's better to be on thyroxine 50 mcg and bring your TSH below 4 MIU/L. Your decreased thyroid function can be due to the surgery in which half of thyroid is removed.
T3 is not essential for making the diagnosis or treatment in your case. You need to take thyroxine supplementation in morning empty stomach.
No dietary or lifestyle modification is suggested if you are from an iodine sufficient area. If not you can increase consumption of sea foods, iodised salt and milk.
